2016 FRC Workshops - Hosted by Team 2337
To help Teams develop a game strategy that is adapted for their specific abilities and needs, the EngiNERDs are hosting an interactive, hands-on workshop the day after FIRST Kickoff. Veteran and Rookie Teams are invited to attend, and will gain valuable knowledge about strategy, and have the opportunity to build their Kit of Part (KoP) Chassis.
In order to attend the Kit of Parts Chassis Build, Teams will need to attend the "Strategy Dictates Design" portion of the day. During this time, Members of Team 2337 will sort your Kit of Parts and distribute mechanical and electrical parts to the appropriate area, and also begin installing/updating necessary software on your Team's Laptop/Classmate PC.

Workshop Pre-RegistrationIf you would like to participate in Team 2337's Day-After Kickoff Workshops and Chassis Build, please fill out this form and we'll contact you to let you whether or not there's an open spot for your Team (spots will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis).
Closer to the date of the workshop, we'll be sending you a CONFIRMATION e-mail that you MUST respond to in order to reserve your spot at the workshop; and this e-mail will include logistics and a pre-order lunch menu. If at any time, you discover that you can no longer attend, please be sure to contact Brandi or Clinton Bolinger so your spot may be given to the next team on the wait-list. |
"Strategy Dictates Design" SeminarTeam 2337's Strategy Dictates Design Seminar is lead by The EngiNERDs' Head Robot Mentor and Drive Coach, Clinton Bolinger.
This workshop will examine "Stronghold" in detail, and assist Teams in learning how to identify individual game strategies and arrange them by priority based on Teams' resources, while taking into consideration time restrictions, budget and manpower. Coming up with these strategies can be difficult, but with some dedication and a realistic point of view, the challenge turns from daunting to inspiring. |
Clinton will teach Teams in attendance how to let "Strategy Dictate Design" rather than letting design constraints limit the functionality of the machine. Throughout the build-season, the Teams should refer to the categorized game strategies they developed at this workshop when making decisions regarding the design and construction of the robot. Continually consulting and reviewing these priorities is a key to success for Team 2337, and assists in keeping the Students and Mentors on track.
"Kit Of Parts Chassis Hands-On" Workshop
|
During the "Kit of Parts Chassis Hands-On" workshop, Teams will be paired with trained EngiNERDs' Team Members, and instructed on how to assemble their own KoP chassis, wire the KoP electrical components, and install LabVIEW on their operator interface. The goal is for each Team to leave the workshop with a functional chassis, which can then be customized and expanded to meet their strategy-dictated design.
Teams should come prepared to be divided into three groups: mechanical, electrical and programming, which will work simultaneously to create a working, moving, fully-functional basic chassis. Teams must supply their own 2016 Kit of Parts, and bring a few simple tools (list coming soon!). The EngiNERDs will supply each Team with an FRC Robot-sized electrical components board, which attendees may take home. |
"Team Organization" WorkshopFrom scouting and agendas to parent involvement and meals, every Team needs some level of organization to ensure that it runs smoothly.
Giving students responsibilities and holding them accountable for their actions through planned and executed schedules can be beneficial for Teams both large and small. In the "Team Organization" workshop, students and mentors will be equipped with knowledge and documentation to create a plan that will assist in establishing a framework for a clearly formatted and manageable season. |
"Awards and Presentations" WorkshopFIRST Robotics Competition Events give away a lot of awards. Some require advance planning, presentations, essays, or materials for distribution, while others are judged at the competition.
In the "Awards and Presentations" workshop, Head Mentor Brandi Bolinger will be talking about awards that are applicable to Rookie and Veteran Teams, and what is required for application. |
